Being that its efi and only the displacement injector sizing and ecu's fuel and timing maps differ is the reason why I asked Rob that question?

If the ecu can be swapped and the pin outs match? (are the same wiring config as the 4g92)
it would be maybe a maf swap, injectors, ecu, and engine, and drive away

Thats a good question and something I've never had an opportunity to check as I dont know anyone with one of those cars. I know what normal CB's ECU wiring plugs look like, but not the later version with the CC style engine which was also labelled 'CC'. I'd presume it runs a CC compatible 3 x plug ECU and wiring loom, hence why it was called the first CC model. The only way to check is to unbolt the ECU and take note of the ECU number and a photo of the end of the plugs that go into the ECU. It's a 50/50 chance either way and best to check before going further.

ok well seems as tho i have played around with the sohc's. ok so you bolt the 93 in it will run as they are the same only dif is engine displacement. same distributors and injectors but the afms are diff but that dont matter, just use the 92 ecu on the 93 it will be fine. i think for memory the 92s have a better fuel map and the 93 goes alot better. so if you get a cheap 93 go for it, i wrecked a cc hatch not that long ago so i may have some parts.... i still have the 92 head here if you want it...

ae you suggesting a 4g92 ecu would make a 4g93 run better

sounding promising...

Chaser from your comments it seems as though it is a viable option. Even better, all going well having it fitted will cost about half of the repairs on the current engine.
Am I likely to run into any issues being non-standard with RTA/ re engineers report etc?
I'll check it out further with Liberoz who lives not too far from me...
thanks for the info and I'll keep you posted.

i think as far as the rta would be conerned they'd just want to know about the engine swap. and being a lancer and a 4g93 comes otioned you could probably get away engineer free

Guys it'll be much easier to determine which course of action to take once we know what ECU plugs and loom the car has?
Being a CB Lancer shape, but called a "CC" Lancer, it could be either the earlier CB loom and ECU setup or the later CC loom and ECU setup.
If its a CC lancer style loom and plugs then he could be able to run a 4G93 ECU and engine.
Which setup has it got?
The 200cc increase in engine displacement is negligable as long as it gets checked by a blue slip station, the new engine number recorded and your Rego papers updated.

OK, great.

So, I can take pics and post for someone to confirm. Warning *dumb question ahead* can someone tell me what to photograph?

Thanks Guys

Behind the dash above the passenger side footwell lives the ECU. Actually stick your head under the dash there (behind the glovebox) and unplug and pull down the yellow plugs going into the ECU. Take a photo of all of the yellow plugs, front on, in the order they were plugged into the ECU :)

they are the same engine looms. just bolt in the 93 and use the 92 manifolds and sensors. if you are looking for a quick fix that is, btw buying a second hand engine is just as risky as buying a second hand car.....
